The Golden Compass!!

One fine day our entire team decided to take a break n go on a team outing. We decided to go for this movie titled ‘The Golden Compass’ featuring Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman and others. It is from the makers of ‘The chronicles of Narnia’. Thinking that it will be as entertaining as Narnia, (Note: I love fantasy :)) am the one who suggested this movie and sort of persuaded others ;)

Our office is not in Chennai.. U can check my very first blog for the details about its location and the distance. We decided to watch this movie on a Friday afternoon in INOX, which is situated at the heart of the city. We took a train till Guindy and then a bus to reach that place. It took us nearly 2.30 hours to reach the theatre. By the time we settled down, the movie had started.

Now lemme tell you the story first n then continue with my experiences...

There is this brave little girl called Lyra who lives with her uncle Lord Asriel(Daniel Craig). In her world every human has a daemon. (A daemon can be any animal and is bound! to the human and they are inseparable!). One day Lyra happens to overhear the conversation between his uncle and other 'scholars'. Asriel starts explaining everyone about the 'particle' that connects this world to the outer world..

At First I wasnt able to get the name of the 'particle' he was talking about. After sometime with the repeated appearance of the word in every dialogue i caught hold of it.. God!! it is nothing but 'DUST'. Everyone in the movie gives a shriek or shudder whenever they hear the word dust. It reminds me of one particular incident. The day i joined the company am working with now, they asked me to fill a few personal details. One such detail is about the thing you are allergic to. Being a truth teller (Unmai velambi :) he he) i filled it as 'Dust'. Yes.. am allergic to dust and my mom sends me out before she starts cleaning the house. The day i got my official ID card i was so happy to see it hanging around my neck and went through the details printed on it. After my name and conatact no. my ID card proclaimed that am allergic to dust.. :(. I was really taken back. But now am happy to know that even Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman are allergic to 'Dust'.. he he he :D

Ok back to the Movie..

One fine day Lyra meets Mrs. Coulter and she agrees to travel with Mrs. Coulter and explore the icy northern Region. Before setting North she gets a 'Golden Compass' from one of the scholars n he tells Lyra to keep it secretly and of all Mrs. Coulter should not know about it. She agrees and leaves with Mrs. Coulter. After sometime, Lyra understands that Mrs. Coulter is a wicked woman and that she kidnaps the kids and sends them to the North. She escapes from the Castle of Coulter and joins the egyptians. They all start travelling towards the North. In one of the towns, Lyra meets an ice bear(Polar Bear).

We should give credit to the team who created this HUGE bear.. bcos the Graphics is tooo good and u are made to believe that it is a real bear.

Now she befriends this bear called 'Eric' and the bear promises to help them in their mission of finding the kidnapped children. Eric was a prince of the polar bear kingdom but it was betrayed by another bear and was driven out of the kingdom. Now comes the highlight of the movie. Lyra and Eric reach the polar bear kingdom. Lyra talks to the 'king' bear and persuades it to fight with Eric. Nearly a 100 Polar bears , each 20 foot tall when they stand on two legs, surround these 2 bears and here starts the fight.. At first Eric gets all the blows from the king bear(just like the Tamil Movie heroes ;)).. One of Eric's legs get wounded and it starts limping. The king bear exults and shouts at Eric 'IS THAT ALL?'.. Eric sees the tears rolling down on Lyra's cheeks, then looks at the king bear and suddenly jumps and bites the throat of the king bear and kills it( The director should have watched 'Pithamagan'!!). Now it is the turn of Eric to exult and say 'That is all'....

Phew... One minute i was confused whether am watching an English movie or a Tamil Movie.. (If it was a Tamil movie we can assume TR to be one of the bears he he :))...

Then finally Lyra reaches the North and saves the Kids.. U can just watch the movie to know how she acheives that.. I feel really exhausted.. So lemme stop here.. One good thing is that my team mates somehow forgot that am the one who suggested this movie ;).. so i travelled back home safe and sound.. he he :D.. By the way i feel really happy that am not the only one who wasted time in watching this movie and writing about it.. He He by reading this blog u too have wasted your precious time ;)..

Remix..

I just wonder why these so called veterans are against Remix. Their argument is that it is spoiling the originality of the song. Wat rubbish!!!!.. In my view the remix is giving a new lease of life to the old songs. I never knew about the existence of this song sung by SPB 'Madai thiranthu padum' until I heard the remix by YogiB & Natchatra. A song that is long forgotten is now being hummed by thousands.. isn't that enough???
It is jus like ppl going for a makeover to look young. ;). If you are ready to accept that,y don't you accept this too? As everything undergoes a continuous change, it is better to change yourself to keep up with others.. There is no point in denying this fact.. oops!!!! sounds philosophical :).. still it is my personal view that there is nothing wrong in going for a Remix.
Hmmm by the time am writing this blog, i have lent my ears to this beautiful song 'Ponmagal vandhal' from ATM.. Sounds great..Wonder y some ppl are against this!!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant Performance in Water game :)

Ahem... After seeing the title don't think that i jumped into water and performed some sooper - dooper act :D. Last Friday we had a DU party. When we reached that place all that we found was few horses and dogs(except our team). Only 50 odd people had turned out. Since the turn out was meagre we decided to leave that place as soon as possible. Then started these game events. The first game required 10 people from each team to participate. Since there weren't enough ppl, i was forced to take part in that!!!.
My God after a very looong time am taking part in some sort of game. :)Ok.. lemme first tell u ppl wat the game was like.. There was a bucket filled with water. At around 10 ft - 15 ft distance an empty kinley water bottle was placed. The team members had to fetch water with their hands and fill the empty water bottle.. nah nah dont even think that i ll fetch water with my hands n come all the way running to fill the bottle.. Physical work is something i always avoid :P. So wanna know wat i did.. i was the wicket-keeper.. oops!! bottle-keeper :). I had to hold the bottle such that the water poured by others goes into the bottle without spilling out. I did a poor bottle keeping at the beginning but then managed to cope up, adjusted the position of my hands and improved my bottle keeping skills!!!. Finally we finished 2nd :D.. There were only 3 teams though ;).. Still i had a great time and enjoyed a lot.. :D

Wat a great day!!

It is an excellent day today.. A beautiful Monday morning and me staying at home n writing this blog sipping a hot cup of tea.. Wow!!!!! wish every Monday mornings are like this :).

It was raining heavily yesterday and I had a very tough time in going to my friend's wedding reception. The roads were flooded and i thought by today morning we have to use boats to get out of our houses and hence i ll stay back at home. When i woke up today morning, there wasn't even a drizzle and the sun was shining brightly... Still i have decided to stay back at home and here i am at my home doing nothing and having a nice time..(Though this s wat i do in office too :))..

Highly Disappointing :(

I was eagerly awaiting the audio release of ATM. Finally i listened to all the 6 songs of ATM today.... To my utter disappointment, none of the songs are highly impressive. None of them have the Rahman touch :(.

The remix song 'Pon magal vandhal' is good. Heard it is not done by ARR. Whoever did it, has done a good job.

The folk number 'Valayapatti thavilae' is also good. ARR has done a good job in this song though it is not upto his standards.

Ella pughazhum n madhuraikku are kind of okayish..

The rest of the songs!!! oh man!! i can't even believe that ARR composed the music for these songs...especially the song Kelamal kaiyilae.. it s terrible

On the whole, A complete package of disappointment from Rahman. :(
